Here I am, Germaine Taves, Senior in this business. When I graduated from High School, I was asked, “What do you want to do after Graduation?” My reply was “Help People.”
With that in mind I first bagged groceries and stacked shelves at a local grocery store. From that, I graduated to wrapping meat. While slicing bacon one day, I sliced into my finger and had to have stitches. It became infected and I made many trips to the Doctor for treatment and found the Medical Field quite fascinating and when they offered me a position, I said yes. After 29 years, 3 months of service, I chose Medical Research, once again, helping people.
Becoming an Entrepreneur at the age of 24, owning property and businesses. I have owned a Home Based Business and a business with a store front. They both have their own challenges and I realize that everyone needs help.
Five years ago I was asked to organize an event for a past customer. After having completed that, I realized that it is a wonderful way to place vendors in a collective situation where clientele can receive the individual attention that is needed.
After organizing events for two years, I started my web site for Home-Based Businesses www.homebasedunlimited.com which started in January of 2009.
With some of the events that were being organized, people with store fronts were contacted. I had questions from the store front owners, feeling that they didn't belong, I decided to add a branch to my business and separate the Home Based Business Owners from the individuals who were participating in my Vendor Events. That is when Innovative Events was born and the site www.innovativeevents.info.
My Daughter, Kellie, is my Sales Manager and together we work as one. Working together has been good for me. While she was growing up, I was a Single Mom with a full time job plus a part time job. Our time together was sporadic and under pressure because of my responsibilities. Working together gives us opportunity to spend time together and work together as a team.
My name is Kellie Taves, I’m 46 years old and I’m an entrepreneur. I started my first home-based business when I was 17 years of age just before I was out of high school in 1982. I had my business for 7 years and then I went into the furniture business. . I was an Interior Designer in Appleton, San Marcos, CA, Minneapolis and then in Green Bay, WI. I’ve been in sales for 30 years now.
About 16 years ago my mother and I got into our first business, together. We started a construction business which we employed more than 35 people in one time and sold in 2006 due to the decline in the building industry. During this time, we also had another construction (siding) business which we had for 3 years and then sold in 2005.
I went into outside sales again in 2006 and then this is when my mother had an opportunity to organize an event to help out one of our past customers. The event went well so she decided to organize another one. Germaine started organizing events in different venues and with different themes. She organizes events in 4 different counties (Brown, Door, Manitowoc and Outagamie) and the themes range from - All Around Home-Based Business Expo, Bride & Groom Expo, Going GREEN - Health and Wellness and Women’s EXPO’s.
I’m the sales gal. I help her when I can because I dabble in another home-based business. I help her pull it all together by getting her exhibitors in and she does the rest. I love working with customers because you develop a friendship with some that never goes away. My mother, Germaine has always had these great ideas for events and that’s why were here. So stop by our events and see what 2011 has in store for you - “A way to look, cook and feel about yourself“, capturing ideas, friendship, getaways, giveaways, laughter, silent auctions and a lot of shopping.
We are both proud of each other because we work so well together and I love that!
